Considered one of America's most influential composers, as he wrote the music to many succesful musical plays for screen and theatre, from 1919 to 1943 in collaboration with Lorenz Hart and from 1943 to 1960 in collaboration with Oscar Hammerstein II. Inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970.
