John Walters profile

1938-2001. Best known for producing John Peel's legendary BBC Radio 1 show for 12 years, helping Peel to shape the more leftfield side of popular music, Walters was also a highly respected radio producer and broadcaster in his own right, and also a familiar face on British television screens.As a young man he studied as an artist and exhibited his paintings beside those of David Hockney before becoming a teacher. He also achieved some chart success in the 1960s as a trumpet player with the Alan Price Set. He died on 30th July 2001.
