Gary Holt is a thrash metal guitarist from Richmond, California. He joined the band Exodus in the early 1980s following the departure of original guitarist Tim Agnello and would emerge as the band's leader and dominant songwriter. In the 1980s, Holt and Exodus guitarist Rick Hunolt were collectively referred to as "The H-Team". Following Exodus' 1993 split, Holt led the band Wardance, which included future Exodus bassist Jack Gibson.
Holt has continued to play with Exodus since the band restarted in 2004. Since 2011, he has also toured with Slayer, filling in for guitarist Jeff Hanneman, who was recovering from necrotizing fasciitis. After Hanneman's death in May 2013, Holt agreed to continue working with Slayer as the band's lead guitarist.
