ELECTRA STRINGS were founded by Sonia Slany and Jocelyn Pook after touring with the COMMUNARDS to record strings in pop and rock music and are constantly engaged in redefining the role of strings in all kinds of music. Over the years they have played, recorded or toured with Bjork, Mark Knopfler, PJ Harvey, Massive Attack, Transqlobal Underground, The Cranberries, and collaborated on the RealWorld Recording Weeks 1993 and 1995. They began the current trend for strings in pop music, appearing in many shows of 'LATER with Jools Holland' as the resident string quartet. Working in the field of contemporary crossover with artists such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Laurie Anderson, Peter Gabriel, William Orbit and Michael Nyman, Electra Strings are creating a reputation based on strong musicality, image and communication, which their own writing demonstrates.
