Frontman and vocalist, Evan Dando, formed the band in Boston in 1984 with his high school classmates Ben Deily and Jesse Peretz. Initially the band was called the Whelps, but changed to the Lemonheads before the release of its debut EP, ''Laughing All the Way to the Cleaners''.
